Thermosiphon Roof Mounted Systems

Solahart's roof mounted tank systems save space at ground level and their elegant simplicity make them  efficient and reliable.

All Solahart solar hot water systems, where the tank is roof-mounted, use the Thermosiphon principle to collect heat from the sun and transfer it to your hot water. The Thermosiphon principle is based on two naturally occurring phenomena:

  • Dark objects absorb heat
  • Hot water rises

Solahart solar collectors are coated with a dark, heat-absorbent surface. This coating absorbs the energy from the suns rays and heats the fluid in the collectors. As the fluid heats, it rises to the top of the collectors and into the tank where it displaces cooler fluid which flows in to the bottom of the collectors where the process is repeated.

The greater the temperature difference between the fluid in the solar collectors and the water in the tank the faster the flow between them.

In open circuit systems the fluid in the collectors is water while in closed circuit systems a special antifreeze fluid, called Hartgard, is used.

When heated in the solar collectors, the Hartgard is circulated in a jacket around the tank to transfer the heat to the water inside. Closed circuit systems are recommended for frost prone areas or in situations with poor water chemistry.

SP Series System

The SP series features the Australian designed and manufacured Envelope solar collector, offering the latest in styling and all weather durability, and with five patents pending has been designed to meet or exceed Australian and International Standards in areas of strength and durability. The SP Series black polyester powder coated absorber maximises the transfer of available solar energy while the closed circuit design makes it suitable for frost prone and poor water chemistry areas.

The SP series utilises Solahart's revolutionary multi-flow collector which uses a huge 35 risers to extract the maximum amount of energy from the sun which heats the Hartgard fluid in the collector. This Hartgard rises into the heat exchanger where the heat is transferred to the water inside of the tank.

The system has a double ceramic lined tank and a protective sacrificial anode and the SP Free Heat features additional protection. The tank is equipped with an electric booster, alternatively an in-line gas booster is available.

SP and SP Free Heat systems can be installed with the optional HartStat OTP (over temperature protection) system to minimise over performance during periods of higher solar radiation and lower hot water draw off.

J Series System

L Series System

Thermosiphon Roof Mounted System

The Solahart L Series is a roof mounted, open circuit solar water heater specifically designed to provide economical service in medium to high solar gain areas. It is not recommended for use in frost or poor water chemistry areas.

The L Series is ingenious in its simplicity. The black polyester powder coated aluminium absorber collects the sun's heat and transfers it to the water in the 7 risers. Copper is used for the risers for its high thermal conductivity ensuring the maximum amount of heat energy is passed to the water. As the water in the risers is heated, it rises into the tank to be replaced by cooler water from the tank. The solar heated water is then stored ready for use - hot water free from the sun.

The L Series has a double coated ceramic lined tank with a protective anode. The L Free heat offers an extended warranty and features additional protection. The tank is equipped with an electric booster, alternatively an in-line gas booster is available.

L and L Free Heat systems can be installed with an optional TRV over temperature protection system to minimise over performance during peridos of higher solar radiation and lower hot water draw off.
